The Summertime Sports Report by Liz Doran

 

The Saint Leo Lion’s family and fans find themselves at the end of another successful school year.  Our teams played hard, learned a lot and continued in the SLS tradition of sportsmanship and teamwork. We added a competitive golf team this year and are looking forward to that being part of our sports line up for a long time to come. Be sure to visit the trophy case next time you walk in the front door and really take a look, it is full of  this year’s trophies with a historic sportsmanship award thrown in to remind us of our heritage.  

 

We successfully hosted this year’s PECSAA tournaments with the help of many volunteers.  Thank you to the athletes, parents, coaches, staff and administration, you made this year a wonderful learning experience for me. Susan and I appreciate your support.

 

          As you can imagine we have begun planning for the 2008-2009 season and would like to share some changes and needs with you.  I will be coming back as solo AD next year.  I would like to publicly thank Susan, who came out of retirement, to get all of us through this past year.

 

It is with sadness, understanding and great optimism that I announce that we are looking for coaches for Pep Squad (3^rd and 4^th grade), Varsity Cheerleading (7^th and 8^th grade) and JV Boys Basketball (5^th and 6^th grade).

 JV and Varsity Volleyball will be starting in August.  If you are interested in playing, or helping out the coaches with practice etc., please contact Laura Gruebel at tgruebel@hotmail.com.

We will be having 2 volleyball open gyms:  Thursday Aug.7th and 14th from 3-5.
 
JV volleyball tryouts will be Thursday Aug. 21 from 3-5.
 
Varsity volleyball tryouts will be Friday Aug.22 from 9-11.
 
Volleyball practice will be on Tuesdays and Thursday with JV practicing from 3-5 and Varsity 5-7.
 
We will have practice on Tuesday Aug. 26th right after early dismissal from 1-3 and Varsity 3-5, otherwise it will be as stated above.
 
Open gym is for any and everyone. You do not have to know how to play we are happy to teach you.
