St. Leo Athletic Association is a member of the Piedmont Elementary Catholic School Athletic Association (P.E.C.S.A.A.). We come together to compete in the spirit of sportsmanship, fair play, and teamwork.
We recognize the participant as an individual, with particular abilities and limitations, with every precaution taken to insure that each is developed to his/her highest potential. Our main purpose is to promote the teaching of skills, development of individual talents, and working together as a team.
Academics are the first priority for our students; athletic participation is a privilege earned by maintaining good grades and responsible behavior. Effort and attitude in the classroom is a demonstration of what an athlete will contribute to his/her team.
When a child is performing below his/her own abilities, it is the option of the principal to remove that child from a team for a determined period of time during which that student must improve his/her grades or risk being removed from that team for the remainder of the season. Additionally, students with excessive conduct referrals or detentions may be removed from team play at the discretion of the principal.
For the 2007-2008 athletic season St. Leo School will participate in the following sports. After each sport is listed the eligible grades:
·
Volleyball Fees: $50 per athlete (JV and Varsity)
·
Pep Squad Fees: $25 per athlete
·
Cheerleading Fees: $25 per athlete (JV)
·
Basketball Fees: $60 per athlete (JV)
·
Co-ed Soccer: $25 per athlete
·
Track Fees: $25 per athlete
Each student wishing to participate in sports, according to Diocesan policy, must submit a physical exam form each year in which he/she wishes to participate. The physical exam must be administered by a licensed, practicing physician. It is good for one calendar year from the date which it is signed.
The physical exam form and sports fee MUST BE submitted to the Athletic Director prior to any student/athlete being allowed to participate in team practices or games.
No child is excluded from trying out for our teams for any reason, other than less than acceptable academic performance. If tryouts are needed for a particular team, all qualified athletes have an equal chance to become a member of a particular team.
Before tryouts/practices begin for any sport, a parent MUST attend a parent meeting with the athletic director. If unable to attend scheduled meeting times, a parent MUST make arrangements to speak individually with the athletic director at a mutually convenient time. No student will be allowed to attend tryouts/practices unless this requirement is fulfilled. This year's meetings are scheduled for August 11 at 9:00 am and August 27 at 6:30 pm in the gym. You need only attend one of these meetings.
Please read the League Handbook for full explanations of our expectations of each school and the entire league.
If you have any questions, please contact our athletic directors, Ms. Elizabeth Doran or Mrs. Susan Doran via e-mail or by calling the school (748-8252) to leave a message for them. |
