Dear Parents
Congratulations, your child has qualified to participate in the Motivation for Academic Performance (MAP) Program through Duke University. In order to qualify, your 4th or 5th grade child had to score in the 95th percentile or higher on his/her 2006 or 2007 Iowa Tests of Basic Skills in the verbal (reading total, reading comprehension, reading vocabulary, language total, and/or social studies), math/science (science, math problem solving, math concepts and applications, math computation, or math total), and/or total composite section of this achievement battery. A child can also qualify be scoring 95th percentile or higher on the quantitative or verbal sections of the Cognitive Abilities Test (COGAT). Because your child qualifies for MAP, he/she is eligible to participate in the program’s offerings. Please see enclosed MAP brochure for details.
If you are interested in the MAP Program, please fill out the enclosed application and return to Duke University postmarked by March 1, 2008. You can also apply for the MAP program online by logging on to www.tip.duke.edu and following the path to 4th/5th Grade Talent Search. The Web registration deadline is March 17, 2008. Students who enrolled in the MAP Program as 4th graders last year do not need to reapply as 5th graders.
