Model UN

St. Leo Catholic School partners with Bishop McGuinness High School to offer Model UN to Seventh and Eighth Grade Students. Students work in teams to prepare position papers on topics according to their "country" assigned by BMHS.  Additionally, the students debate the topic as their "country" in a mock United Nations Meeting moderated by BMHS students.  Middle School students learn to put forth positions on current events, debate policy, and react to "events" that happen during their sessions. Students learn parliamentary procedure, how to research, and how to debate on current events. Awards are given for best speaker and  best delegation per room.

We are pleased to be able to learn from Bishop McGuinness' award-winning Model UN program and to expose our students to such a dynamic educational experience.  Many go on to participate in debate and Model UN teams in high school and in college.
