Beginning January 1, 2027, individual taxpayers may be eligible to receive a federal tax credit of up to $1,700 for qualifying cash contributions to an approved Scholarship Granting Organization, or SGO. Unlike a tax deduction, a tax credit generally reduces the amount of federal income tax owed dollar for dollar.
North Carolina has elected to participate in the program. Once approved SGOs and contribution procedures are finalized, eligible donations will help provide scholarships for qualified K–12 educational expenses, including opportunities for students to attend schools such as St. Leo Catholic School.
Additional details and giving instructions will be shared as they become available. Donors should consult their tax advisor to determine how the credit may apply to their individual circumstances.
