Strong literacy skills are the foundation for success in every subject. At St. Leo Catholic School, our English Language Arts program develops confident readers, thoughtful writers, and effective communicators through a structured, research-based approach.
Beginning in the early grades, students receive explicit, systematic instruction grounded in the Orton-Gillingham approach to literacy. Through our curriculum, students build strong phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, and written expression skills using proven instructional practices aligned with the recommendations of the Diocese of Charlotte.
As students progress, they apply these foundational skills through rich literature, research, persuasive and analytical writing, presentations, and collaborative projects that foster critical thinking and prepare them for success in high school, college, and beyond.
